What is TECTA?

HOME

The Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA) statewide training system is based on the belief that all early childhood education personnel need to acquire the recognized professional knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care and education for young children.

TECTA is an academic gateway based in the Tennessee Board of Regents college/university system with a curriculum centered on professional core competencies.

The TECTA State Management Office is located in Research and Sponsored Programs Building on the main campus of Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN.

Research shows that quality early childhood education plays an important role in preparing children to enter school ready to learn.  TECTA training puts current research into practice with a research-based curriculum to positively impact the lives of Tennessee's children.

The key to a quality child care program is the professional preparation of teaching and administrative personnel with whom young children spend a significant portion of their formative years.

TECTA programs are based on state and national standards for the preparation of professional early childhood education personnel.

TECTA is sponsored and funded by the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

TECTA is approved by the Tennessee Department of Human Services and the Tennessee Board of Regents.

TECTA-approved courses and programs include important knowledge and skills adopted by the TECTA state steering committee, which includes childcare providers, higher education systems, professional associations, state agencies, business representatives, and parents.

The program provides articulation between post-secondary certificate and degree programs when students meet higher education admission requirements.
