In a collaborative research effort, Digital Promise has released a groundbreaking report titled “From Childcare to Educare: Inspiring Change in Early Childhood Education for Rural Tennessee.” This report sheds light on the systemic barriers faced by early childhood education (ECE) service providers in rural Tennessee and outlines actionable recommendations to drive positive social change.
The study, conducted in partnership with TECTA, found that equitable access to quality education remains a persistent challenge, particularly for ECE providers living in rural regions. By listening to the experiences and concerns of these educators, the research team gained a deeper understanding of the systemic issues, including the “Babysitter Stigma” that undermines the skills and complexity of their work.
The report offers a range of recommendations targeting employers, education and training programs, and policymakers. These include funding wrap-around support networks, improving access to educational and training opportunities, and implementing equitable employment practices.
To support this research, the research team has developed an infographic highlighting the demographics on TECTA-supported educators and recommendations for successful change for stakeholders available here.
By empowering early childhood education service providers and fostering meaningful engagement with collaborators, this collaborative initiative aims to transform the landscape of rural education in Tennessee and beyond. The report, “From Childcare to Educare: Inspiring Change in Early Childhood Education for Rural Tennessee,” is available on the Digital Promise website.
